ELC Educators in fire-fighting trainingSafely of children in our care is a serious issue. As stated on the safety regulations, all Early Learning Centres (ELCs) should have a safety plan in place. A clear evacuation plan. Children should be familiar with a fire drill. All staff members should have appropriate training to respond to fire emergences in order to ensure safety of all children under their care.

Thandanani in partnership with Firequip conducted training with all our ELCs staff. This training equipped them with the knowledge of different fires, prevention of such fires and dealing with them. 8 ELCs from both Pietermaritzburg and Richmond sent their staff to a day training. They learnt how to store different fire extinguishers, how to handle and use them.

At the end of the training, it was evident that the participants were more confident as they knew very well what is expected from them in a case of fire emergency and how to keep the situation under control.

A great thanks goes to Firequip and their staff for providing this training.
