Mayibuye Stakeholders Forum which is currently made up of 20 organisations operating in the Midlands and surrounding areas organised the second annual child protection week which ran from the 25th -29th of May 2009. Having had realized the different services each organisation gives to the communities it serves, it became clear that a cohesion approach in addressing the issues faced by the young people is vital as it delivers the same message via people with different expertise in working with young people.
A total of 5 schools took part in this year’s Child Protection Week. The 2 high schools were: Nyonithwele High School and Ingqwangele Secondary School. The 3 primary schools were: Henryville Primary School; Muzithusi Primary School and Edendale Primary School. A total of 2313 learners  The theme for this year’s was: “know your rights and responsibilities ‘’ report abuse!! This theme was carried out with the following items: - Children’s Rights
- Schools Act
- Child Abuse
- Protecting the child
- Gender Based Violence
- Substance Abuse
- HIV/AIDS
- Mother, Child & Teacher Relationship
- Wise Electricity
- and Rape
Different activities were done by learners to show their understanding of their rights and abuse and to teach their peers. Different talents were exhibited through: art; drama; dance; debate; public speaking and etc. Prices were awarded on the drawing and painting category.
