Once again Thandanani is the beneficiary of the Coca Cola KFC Concert in the Park which follows on the phenomenal success of the previous four years' musical extravaganzas. Guest stars appearing and, fronting the ever popular KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, include the acclaimed Russian cellist Boris Kerimov, the immensely talented female vocalist Crystal Tryon, charismatic male vocalist Tim Moloi, South Africa's internationally acclaimed tenors Dewald von Solms, Stefan Louw and Jannie Moolman, the wonderful group of electric violinists BraVa and the incredibly talented students from Maritzburg College and PMB Girls High.

 

With Russian-born conductor Naum Rousine back on the podium, the bumper programme will include a wide mix of popular music as well as a hot list of classics from the orchestra's choice repertoire.

 

The concert starts at 12 noon with an extended programme, the boys from Maritzburg Boys College and the girls from PMB Girls High performing a selection of songs from their recent smash hit Nashville this includes I Will Always Love You, Always On My Mind, That Don't Impress Me Much, Delta Dawn, Queen of Hearts, Ring of Fire and other favorites as well as the PMB Girls High Wind Band performing a selection of popular pieces..

 

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra takes to the stage at 1.30 p.m. Their programme includes Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld (Overture), Waltz from Swan Lake - Tchaikovsky, Verdi's La Donna e mobile with the 3 tenors, Saint-Saens Swan - Carnival of Animals featuring Boris Kerimov and Puccini's Nessun Dorma with the 3 tenors as well as other memorable pieces.

 

The popular PMB Caledonian Pipe Band will perform a host of well known favorites such as Flower of Scotland, Amazing Grace, Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave and others in conjunction with the orchestra.

 

The final third of the concert features the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra supporting Tim Moloi, Crystal Tryon, Bra Va and the 3 tenors as they perform more contemporary pieces such as The Time of  our Lives, Lets get this party started, Lord of the Dance (River Dance), Kiss from a Rose, Ain't that a kick in the head, Can't take my eyes offa you, Have you met Miss Jones, Come fly with me and many others. 

 

Concert goers will experience the wonderful new entrance to the Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens when entering the park and enjoy the picturesque walk down the 101 year Plane Tree avenue. Additional and convenient parking has been secured in and around the gardens and the Pietermaritzburg Traffic Department will be in attendance to assist with traffic control. People with current disability stickers for their vehicles can contact the organisers to arrange more convenient parking.
