Well, I know today is not Halloween, but it is the closest to Halloween my office is going to get.
Every other Friday everyone comes in for staff meetings. Today when they went into the board room for the meeting, everyone was delighted that there was candy on the table between the minute printed from the last meeting. I could hear grown people squealing for joy over the candy from down the hall. I had put candy on the table and written "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! trick or treat" on the white board at the head of the room, and today the meeting opened with me explaining Halloween [they don't really celebrate it here] and letting them know that there was going to be a pot of candy at my door all day today-- if they wanted some, they would have to say "trick or treat" to me first. Over the course of the day I got to watch was grown-ups fought over pieces of candy in my pot. October has been a hard month for those working here... but hopefully me putting a little more goofiness [and candy] in the day will make things a little brighter!
Quote of the week:
Agnes: You know, I saw Obama on the news handing out candy to children. For your 'Happy Halalwee.' Me: 'Happy Halloween.' Agnes: Oh. 'Happy Halloween.' Yes. And your 'tip and tree.' Me: 'Trick or treat.' Agnes: Oh yes, 'tick or tree.' When you made us say that on Friday, I thought this woman is crazy. But now that I see your President Obama doing it, I know you are all crazy.
