The below profiles are the actual profiles of a few households that are in need of sponsorship in order to make ends meet for them whilst our dedicated staff continualy assist them in improving their living. If you are interested in sponsoring a household, you can find more information under "Sponsor a Household" or by following this link. Remember, the are more of these households and these are just a few chosen to publish on this website.

Family background

 

Khumalo household was identified in July 2008. The family consists of 4 family members; 2 adults and 2 children. Lillian the grandmother has been the caregiver of 2 children since the mother passed away after a long illness, on top of two children she is also caring for her son William who is 47 years of age,  (only 12 years younger than Alvina due to the department of home affairs wrongfully registering her as 10 years younger). He is receiving disability grant which is their only source of income. It is reported that William’s disability grant is temporary and normally lasts for 12 months or less and at times when he re-apply, his application is declined. During the times in which the grant is suspended the family struggles as they depend mainly on this grant.

Family background

This family was identified in January 2009 by our volunteer. Sindisiwe is caring for two of her own children and is step mother to two children from her late husband (She was married to their father who passed away in March 2008. Their biological mother died in March 2003). In addition, she cares for an abandoned child from her late husband’s extended family.

Family background

 

This family was identified in 2008 by the volunteer. It consists of nine (9) family members, of which 6 are children and 3 are adults who are the grandmother (caregiver), her daughter and the grand daughter. They all depend on grandmother’s old age pension. The two orphans were living with their parents at Springs. The mother passed away in 1997 and the father followed in 2006. After the death of their biological parents the children were left unattended and they then decided to move to their maternal grandmother where they are presently staying.
