Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are drawn from within the communities we serve. The majority are unemployed females who volunteer their time and energy to address the well-being of children in their community. They do this by educating others on the rights and well-being of children and providing direct support to those households and children in greatest need. In this sense they contribute to the well-being and development of their own community and, in so doing, assist the community to overcome some of the consequences of historical inequality, poverty and HIV/AIDS. Thandanani provides these volunteers with training, supervision and a small stipend. This too contributes to community development through capacity building and income generation. Thandanani's ultimate goal is to develop these volunteer teams to the point where they can become self-sufficient community based care and support systems.
