"ADOPT" A FAMILY IN NEED

Thandanani Children's Foundation has a Household Sponsorship Programme that enables private individuals to "adopt" and support orphans and vulnerable children living in poverty.

One of Thandanani's goals is to ensure that the basic material, physical, emotional and cognitive needs of these children are taken care of. We do this in a variety of ways, our household sponsorship system being just one (visit our website www.thandanani.org.za to find out more about our activities)

The recipients of this form of support are usually orphans living without adult support (child headed households) or children living in extreme poverty. This programme not only provides these children with much needed support but also offers private individuals and small donors an affordable means to meaningfully contribute to the well-being and development of others.

How the system works:

Thandanani Children's Foundation currently has over 1600 orphans and vulnerable children on its database. Thandanani provides support to these children via community based volunteer teams who regularly visit the homes of these children to monitor and support their well-being and development. All the funds generated through our Household Sponsorship Programme are used to provide for the basic needs of these children.

Two sponsorship systems are available. The first involves regular monthly contributions towards the basic needs of a particular household and the second involves once - off contributions towards a particular aspect of support.

Monthly Sponsorship

With this sponsorship option individuals make a fixed monthly contribution over a period of time (usually six or twelve months) in support of a particular household. All this money is then used to support the basic needs of that particular family. For example: to buy groceries, electricity, school uniforms, school stationary, basic household furniture and equipment (e.g. pots, pans, beds and bedding) and to do basic repairs to the house itself.

Individuals selecting this option are provided with a profile of their "adopted" household and receive a report on the household every six months.

Once Off Contributions

For those who would like to support a child, but who cannot commit to a regular monthly contribution, once-off contributions can also be made. Once off sponsors can contribute towards a particular aspect of support. Thandanani will then acknowledge receipt of your contribution, purchase the items you selected and distribute them to children or households in need.

Once-off contributions can be made towards any of the options listed below:

1. Schooling such as uniform and stationary
	R 050.00 ($ 07.70) towards schooling R 100.00 ($ 15.40) towards schooling R 200.00 ($ 30.70) towards schooling

2. Monthly Groceries
	R 100.00 ($ 15.40) towards monthly groceries R 200.00 ($ 30.70) towards monthly groceries R 300.00 ($ 46.20) towards monthly groceries

3. Household Food Garden Supplies

4. Basic Household Equipment such as pots, pans, gas cookers etc
	R 100.00 ($ 15.40) towards household equipment R 200.00 ($ 30.70) towards household equipment R 300.00 ($ 46.20) towards household equipment

5. Basic Household Furniture such as beds and bedding
	R 100.00 ($ 15.40) towards household furniture R 200.00 ($ 30.70) towards household furniture R 300.00 ($ 46.20) towards household furniture

6. Personal Items such as toiletries and casual clothes

7. "Luxury Items" such as sports kit and equipment

8. Housing Construction and Maintenance

Note: If you would like to sponsor the building of a whole house
for between R 10 000.00 and R 15 000.00, please contact us directly.

As an individual you can elect to sponsor any one or more of these 'basic needs.' Alternatively a group of individuals could collectively sponsor all the needs of a household. But, no matter how big or small, all contributions will be gratefully received and wisely used in support of the children we care for.
