Duncan AndrewThis, our 20th anniversary year, has been strangely contradictory, and because of that, a challenging year. On the one hand, we celebrated 20 years of facilitating community based care and support to orphan's and other vulnerable children; saw our beneficiary numbers increase, achieved almost all of our service delivery targets for the year and secured funding for the expansion of some of our existing services and the introduction of new health related services.

larrytookeThis last year has been a challenging one for Thandanani as it has for many other organisations in the NGO sector that rely on external sources of funding. In many ways the year has been a continual balancing act – on the one hand there has been the pressing concern to responsibly manage financial risk, on the other has been the needs of our communities and our service delivery to them.

  • New development assessment tool for volunteers
  • Secured land for a communal food garden in Richmond
  • Developed and supported 140 household food gardens
  • School "make-over" in partnership with Epworth Girls High
  • Hosted 2 learners who now holds NQF5 in Community Development
  • Secured 216 foster care grants, 73 birth certificates & secured other grants
  • Caregiver's support groups reached 113 caregivers and 149 OVCs

Winter Warmth 2009 E-mail

Blankets distribution 2009Once again, East Coast Radio and it partners had a successful winter warmth campaign 2009. With their immeasurable generosity they donated over 2700 blankets through Rotary Club (Pietermaritzburg) and Starfish Foundation. Our staff and volunteers worked long hours ensuring that each and every child in our database receives a blanket.
