 Child protection week - By Agnes Mkhize

Mayibuye Stakeholders Forum which is currently made up of 20 organisations operating in the Midlands and surrounding areas organised the second annual child protection week which ran from the 25^th -29^th of May 2009. Having had realized the different services each organisation gives to the communities it serves, it became clear that a cohesion approach in addressing the issues faced by the young people is vital as it delivers the same message via people with different expertise in working with young people.

A total of 5 schools took part in this year’s Child Protection Week. The 2 high schools were: Nyonithwele High School and Ingqwangele Secondary School. The 3 primary schools were: Henryville Primary School; Muzithusi Primary School and Edendale Primary School. A total of 2313 learners

The theme for this year’s was: “know your rights and responsibilities ‘’ report abuse!! 

This theme was carried out with the following items: 

• Children’s Rights

• Schools Act

• Child Abuse

• Protecting the child

• Gender Based Violence

• Substance Abuse

• HIV/AIDS

• Mother, Child & Teacher Relationship

• Wise Electricity

• and Rape

Different activities were done by learners to show their understanding of their rights and abuse and to teach their peers. Different talents were exhibited through: art; drama; dance; debate; public speaking and etc. Prices were awarded on the drawing and painting category. Read More...

Coca Cola KFC Concert in the Park - Sunday 21 June 2009, Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens

Pietermaritzburg's most prestigious and popular family concert, The Coca Cola KFC Concert in the Park, celebrates its 5th Anniversary on Sunday 21 June 2009 at the Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens, this also happens to be Father's Day. The concert has shown consistent growth each year since the inaugural concert on Sunday 22 July 2005. 

The 5th anniversary concert will be bigger and better than ever. So pack your picnic hampers and make a day of enjoying the open air concert of the year! 

In the years, this concert has assisted Thandanani in terms of awareness and funding. 

Date: Sunday 21 June 2009 (Fathers Day)

Venue: Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens

Time: 12 Noon - 4.30 p.m. (Gates open at 9.30 for concert goers and tickets include entry into the park)

Ticket Prices: Adults R 85, Pensioners R 75 and Children 4 - 16 R 35 per child

To apply for your card please call the My School / My Village client services on 0860 100 445 or go to www.myschooltest.co.za/application/villages/index.php alternatively you can simple go to www.thandanani.org.za/myvillage for the application. Select Thandanani as your Village of choice under "other" in the drop down menu. Once you have registered, My Village will send you a welcome pack, your personalised My Village supporter card and a detailed list of the many retail outlets where you can use your card. Remember every swipe counts! 

You do not have time to fill out the application online? No problem! Simple download our form in Excel, Word or PDF save it to your computer and fill it out offline, fax or email it back to us and we will complete the application on your behalf.

The email contained your username which in most cases is your first name in small letters and your generic password ******.  The reason for receiving this email is because we subscribed you to our newsletter’s new system which we are implementing to better deliver our updates and to make our website more accessible to you.

Well you can rest assure that our system is far better that sending emails via desktop email clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird and etc. Our database is hosted behind a 128bit encryption firewalls which give us the confidence to say, your details are safe with us. 

With your details you can access restricted areas of our website and take part in the future developments that we will be implementing to communicate with you.  If you haven’t change your generic password to something that only you know, please do so by logging into our website using your username and password sent to you.
